Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed on Wednesday that contacts between Russia and the United States have returned to normal.
Commenting on relations between Russia and the United States, Zakharova said, according to Sputnik, "It's not an easy matter, but it's proceeding along several lines. In particular, specific work is being done to improve the work of embassies."
She added, "These contacts (Russia and the United States) are returning to normal, after having been in a state of complete shambles. This is not easy, of course, but it proceeds along several lines."
Zakharova continued, "As you can see, these are contacts, including consultations between diplomats." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov and his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, set the tone.
Zakharova added, "There are contacts somewhere, and I mean contacts are taking place somewhere, including abroad, with our parliamentarians. Our senators are also communicating with their American counterparts."
She concluded, "Work is currently underway to improve or return to some kind of normalcy or some aspects of it in the activities of our embassies. I don't know how to describe it."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who visited Russia and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, had a "good meeting."
For his part, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov declared that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff, the US president's special envoy, in Moscow, was constructive and useful.
