Srinagar - (Saba):
Tensions continue to rise between India and Pakistan, as both sides announced on Wednesday that there were casualties as a result of mutual shelling.
According to the Russian news agency "Sputnik," an Indian official reported that 10 people were killed and 48 injured in Pakistani shelling targeting the Indian-administered part of Kashmir. He also confirmed that three Indian fighter jets crashed on Indian soil for unknown reasons.
On the other hand, the Pakistani army chief announced that 26 civilians were killed and 46 others wounded due to Indian shelling. He stated that Indian rocket fire on a mosque in Bahawalpur alone resulted in the death of 13 people, including women and children.
India launched attacks in the early hours of Wednesday on Pakistan and the part of Kashmir administered by Islamabad. Pakistan said it had shot down five Indian fighter jets, marking the worst fighting between the two longtime rivals in over 20 years.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that his country reserves the full right to respond to the military operation launched by India last night.
For its part, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the Indian military operation is a "blatant act of war" that threatens Pakistan's sovereignty and stability, adding: "We strongly condemn India's cowardly act, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and established norms of inter-state relations."
