Gaza - Saba:
The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, praised on Wednesday the resilience and sacrifices of Palestinian workers in the face of Zionist aggression, calling for a global labor movement in solidarity with Gaza and rejection of the ongoing assault.
In a press statement marking International Workers' Day on May 1, Hamas emphasized that the suffering of Palestinian workers is part of the broader tragedy endured by the Palestinian people due to the enemy’s actions—persisting for over seven decades and escalating in the past 18 months. The movement stressed that this suffering will only end with the defeat of the occupation, affirming that the Palestinian people, across all segments, remain steadfast in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination.
Hamas underscored that the enemy’s crimes against Palestinian workers are systematic, aimed at dismantling the foundations of human life in blatant violation of international laws and conventions. This necessitates urgent international intervention to halt these atrocities.
The movement also rejected all forms of targeting against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) by the occupation and its supporters, describing it as a desperate attempt to erase evidence of the enemy’s crimes in displacing and uprooting the Palestinian people. Hamas called on all nations to continue supporting UNRWA to ensure it fulfills its humanitarian role.
It further urged global human rights and humanitarian organizations to expose the escalating crimes , violations committed by the enemy against Palestinian workers , to pressure the occupation to lift its unjust siege on Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including its cities, villages, and refugee camps. Hamas demanded an end to restrictions on workers' freedom, livelihoods, and employment.
The movement commended the positions of free trade unions and labor organizations worldwide that have consistently supported the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and just cause, mobilizing in solidarity with Gaza and condemning the aggression. It called on them to continue and escalate all forms of activism against the Zionist enemy until its aggression ceases.
Hamas appealed to labor movements and trade unions globally to mark May 1 as a day of struggle, renewing support for the Palestinian people through solidarity events and raising workers' voices against Zionist aggression and war crimes. It specifically urged transport , port unions to intensify boycotts of Zionist and international shipping companies complicit in arming the enemy , enabling its crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing against civilians.
The statement added: "This year’s International Workers' Day comes as Zionist aggression escalates against our people, with workers forming an integral part of their struggle for freedom and independence. They endure the worst forms of persecution, siege, racism, and denial of basic human rights amid global inaction in stopping the enemy’s crimes."
Hamas concluded: "On this day, we mourn the martyrs of our people among the workers, whose blood has fueled uprisings against the enemy. We pray for the recovery of the wounded and freedom for prisoners. We salute the sacrifices of Palestinian workers across the homeland , beyond, sending them a message of pride and admiration for their resilience in the face of injustice, siege, and aggression."
