UEFA Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain turns Table on Liverpool, advances on Penalty Kicks

PARIS - Saba:
On Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain overturned a 1-0 home defeat in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, dominating the match. The French club repaid Liverpool with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory at Anfield after the French capital club won 1-0 after regulation and extra time.

This victory secured them a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. After regular time ended with Paris Saint-Germain winning 1-0 thanks to a goal scored by Ousmane Dembélé (12), the two teams went into extra time, with the score remaining unchanged.

The French capital club secured qualification via penalty kicks (4-1), after Uruguayan Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed their kicks, which were saved by the brilliant Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Paris Saint-Germain will face the winner between Belgian club Club Brugge and English club Aston Villa in the quarter-finals, having undeservedly lost the first leg in a match they completely dominated at home, wasting a torrent of chances. Substitute Harvey Elliott then scored a last-gasp winner to give Liverpool victory.

The match at Anfield began with a clear attacking style, with Egyptian Mohamed Salah almost opening the scoring with a shot that went over the bar (5). He then repeated the attempt when he advanced on the right side and shot from the edge of the area close to goal (6).

Despite Liverpool's successive chances, Dembele surprised the hosts with a goal against the run of play (12) after exchanging the ball with Bradley Barcola, finding himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who failed to stop it.

Paris Saint-Germain came close to increasing the score through Bradley Barcola (17), but Alisson came off in the nick of time, and then Portuguese Diogo Jota missed a close-range header (19).

After several attempts and a fast-paced performance from both teams, the Parisian team finished the first half in the lead.

In the second half, Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai scored a goal for the Reds, but the referee disallowed a goal for Luis Dias (55).

Following this disallowed goal, Liverpool's enthusiasm ignited, but goalkeeper Donnarumma and Ecuadorian defender Pacho prevented the hosts from scoring, while substitute Jarrell Quansah's header was blocked by the crossbar and post (79).

The Italian goalkeeper's brilliance helped repel dangerous attempts by Dias and Salah (83), while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia came close to deciding the match shortly before the end (87).

After two goalless extra periods, the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, with Nunez and Jones missing their attempts, amidst remarkable brilliance from Donnarumma.

Paris Saint-Germain scored all of their penalties, emerging victorious 4-1 and advancing to the quarter-finals.
