Hamas on Thursday congratulated the brotherly Lebanese people on the election of General Joseph Aoun as President of the Lebanese Republic.
Hamas wished the new era success in leading the country towards progress and prosperity, and achieving the goals of the brotherly Lebanese people in liberating their entire land from the Zionist enemy, and preserving Lebanon's unity, security and stability.
"Hamas" said in a press statement: "We renew our congratulations to His Excellency President Joseph Aoun," stressing its constant keenness on civil peace in Lebanon and building the best relations between the brotherly Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, rejecting settlement projects and working to provide a decent life for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon by approving their human and social rights until they are able to return to their homes in Palestine.
The Lebanese Parliament elected on Thursday Army Commander General Joseph Aoun as President of the country, after counting the votes in the second round of the parliament's vote to elect a President of the Republic after the position was vacant for more than two years.
