Nablus - Saba:
The Palestinian Prisoners' Information Office stated that prisoner Abdullah Barghouti is facing a systematic assassination attempt inside the Israeli Gilboa Prison, as his health condition has reached a critical stage that directly threatens his life.
The Prisoners' Information Office confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday that prisoner Abdullah Barghouti is being severely beaten, to the point that his body is covered in blue spots, his head is covered in blood clots, his eyes are swollen, and his ribs are broken, rendering him unable to sleep.
The statement, citing other prisoners inside Gilboa Prison, explained that repression units storm Barghouti's cell under the command of an officer named Amir, where they beat him until approximately half a liter of blood flows from his body each time.
The prisoners said that after Barghouti's beatings are over, dogs are brought in to devour his blood-soaked body. The officer orders, "Bring the dogs in so they can play with him."
The Prisoners' Office added in its statement that the repressive forces poured hot dishwashing liquid on his emaciated body after each round of torture to increase the pain. Prisoner Barghouti is also subjected to verbal abuse, with the officer telling him, "You were a former commander, today you are zero... You must die."
Prisoners in Gilboa Prison said that Barghouti repeatedly falls into comas as a result of the torture. They added that he is unable to sleep normally and is forced to sit on the floor with his head bent forward due to the intense pain.
They explained that prisoner Barghouti has not been able to shower for 12 days and is forced to soak bread in water and drink it because he is unable to chew.
The Prisoners' Office emphasized that what prisoner Abdullah Barghouti is being subjected to is a slow, deliberate assassination, a flagrant violation of all international norms and conventions. They noted that the enemy's ongoing attempts to eliminate leaders of the prisoner movement inside prisons will only bring it more anger and popular unrest.
He criticized the continued international silence, believing it has only encouraged the enemy to persist in committing these crimes, which are a disgrace to those who claim to defend human rights.
The Prisoners' Office called on international human rights organizations, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urgently intervene to visit prisoner Barghouthi and inspect his condition. He called for an international investigation and for the enemy to be held accountable for these crimes before the International Criminal Court.
He called on the Palestinian people and the free people of the world to participate in angry marches in support of the prisoners in prisons, considering their cause sacred and that tampering with it is a red line.
Prisoner Abdullah Barghouthi, born in 1972 in the town of Beit Rima, is a former commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in the West Bank and a prisoner in Israeli prisons.
