Sana'a – Saba

The total number of taxpayers of small and micro enterprises, as well as small taxpayers of real estate income tax who obtained tax exemption certificates, since the issuance of Law No. 8 of 2020 until the end of 2024, increased to 71,871 citizens, the acting chairman of the Tax Authority said on Tuesday.

The Authority granted 48,903 exemption certificates to taxpayers of small and micro enterprises for profits and liberal professions taxes, while 22,968 exemption certificates were granted to small taxpayers of real estate income tax, Wahid Al-Kabsi added in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

He stated that the Authority worked during the second phase of exemptions to renew exemption certificates through the Authority’s automated system for 63,448, including 42,482 in the field of profits and liberal professions tax and 20,966 in the field of real estate income tax. Wahid Al-Kibsi said tax exemptions are one of the economic measures taken, which embody the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to provide facilities to citizens, and take into account the circumstances they suffer from as a result of the aggression and siege.

Al-Kibsi explained that the tax exemptions include the commercial and industrial profits tax, as well as the non-commercial and non-industrial profits tax, as well as the real estate income tax for small taxpayers, in addition to exempting users and employees of small and micro-enterprises.

Exemptions despite the need for resources

"Neighboring and rich countries are working to impose new taxes on their citizens, while Yemen has worked to grant a wide segment of the simple people exemptions from tax fees at a time when it is in dire need of resources, as a result of the exceptional circumstances it is going through following the aggression," he said, "but it preferred to give and grant exemptions in translation of the directives of the leader of the revolution, Mr. Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi al-Mashat, President of the Supreme Political Council."

The acting chairman of the Tax Authority touched on the achievements in the field of exemptions and the efforts made at the level of each governorate, noting in this regard that the total exemption certificates granted to small and micro-enterprise taxpayers as well as small real estate taxpayers in the capital Sana'a amounted to 56,118 certificates.

He noted that the total tax exemption certificates granted to small taxpayers in Taiz Governorate amounted to 5,353, in Hodeida 18,267 certificates, in Ibb 16,959 certificates, in Dhamar 7,931 certificates, in Hajjah 3,423 certificates, in Sa'ada 1,430 certificates, in Sana'a 8,905 certificates, in Al Baydha 5,006 certificates, in Mahweet 3,375 certificates, in Jawf 634 certificates, in Amran 6,465 certificates, and in Raymah Governorate 1,453 certificates. .

Law No. 8 of 2020 provides for granting exemptions to small and micro-enterprise taxpayers whose annual turnover and "total annual sales value or total annual revenues do not exceed 20 million riyals, as well as small real estate taxpayers whose monthly rented property income does not exceed 50 thousand riyals."
