Netherlands : Ukraine is losing war & is in dire straits
[Fri, 06 Dec 2024 14:51:10 +0300]

Amsterdam - Saba:
Dutch Defense Minister Robin Brickelmans admitted that Ukraine is losing the war and is in dire straits ahead of proposed negotiations with Russia.

“Russia has an advantage,” Brickelmans said during a debate on the defense budget in the Dutch House of Representatives yesterday. “Ukraine is arguably losing the war.

According to Brickelmans, the results of the presidential election in the United States aggravated the situation in Kiev due to Donald Trump's position.

According to the Dutch newspaper Trau, Brickelmans said: “We are dealing with the election results (in the United States), which turn things upside down, because we know that the new President Donald Trump has made statements about how he feels about Ukraine and how he will bring the parties to the negotiating table.”

According to Brickelmans, peace negotiations now are not beneficial for Kiev, because the Ukrainian leadership will be forced to make territorial concessions due to its weaker position.

“The risk is that Ukraine will have to make significant concessions because it will have to negotiate from a position of weakness,” he said.

At the end of November, Zelensky said in an interview with Sky News that he could agree to a ceasefire and give up some territory in exchange for Ukraine's membership in NATO.

Earlier, Reuters reported that US President-elect Donald Trump's plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine includes Kiev's rejection of NATO membership and territorial concessions to Russia.

According to Reuters, there are now three plans: From future Vice President J.D. Vance, former Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, and Keith Kellogg, the nominee for Special Representative for Ukraine.

In July, Russian President Vladimir Putin said a ceasefire in Ukraine is impossible without the “other side” agreeing to irreversible steps acceptable to Moscow.

He emphasized that Russia cannot allow the enemy to exploit the ceasefire to improve its position and regain strength. Putin also noted that Ukraine's potential membership in NATO poses a threat to the country's security. He emphasized that the risks of Kiev joining the alliance were one of the reasons for the start of the special military operation.
