RAMALLAH September 04. 2024 (Saba) - The Palestinian Prisoners' Institutions reported on September 4, 2024, that since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have detained 10,400 individuals from the West Bank.
This total includes 725 children, 400 women, and 98 journalists. The institutions—comprising the Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and Freed Prisoners, the Prisoners' Club, and Addameer Prisoner Care and Human Rights Association—clarified that the 400 women arrested include those from the 1948 territories and Gaza, though the exact number of women from Gaza is not specified.
The report also highlighted that 52 of the 98 detained journalists remain in custody, including six women.
Additionally, at least 17 journalists from Gaza have been arrested, with 15 of them under administrative detention. Since the onset of the current conflict, over 8,872 administrative detention orders have been issued, affecting both children and women.
The ongoing arrest campaigns have been accompanied by severe abuses, including physical violence, threats against detainees and their families, and extensive destruction of property.
Notable violations include the seizure of vehicles, money, and jewelry, as well as the demolition of homes in Tulkarm, Jenin, and their camps. Some detainees' families have had their homes demolished and have been used as human shields.
The report also mentions that arrest operations have involved detaining people from their homes, at military checkpoints, or under duress, and includes cases of field executions of detainees' family members. The highest number of arrests has occurred in the Jerusalem and Hebron governorates.
