BAYDA August 26. 2024 (Saba) - The Governor of Al-Bayda, Abdullah Idris, was briefed on Monday on the damage caused to the ancient castle of Radaa "Shammar Yahr'ish", as a result of heavy rainfall.
During the visit, along with the deputy governor, Ahmed al-Seikal, and the director of the Rada'a district, Ahmed al-Akam, Governor Idris listened to the director of the branch of the Antiquities Authority in the governorate, Khaled al-Nawi, to explain the extent of the damage caused by the increased rainfall, and the collapse of parts of the western wall of the citadel.
Governor Idris urged the removal and removal of waste, the preparation of technical and engineering studies, and the submission of a detailed report in coordination with the Antiquities Authority, so that the work of returning the collapsed parts of Rada'a Castle can be undertaken, and the damage to the castle will be assessed, and solutions and treatments will be developed to preserve them.
He pointed to the importance of this historical and archaeological landmark as one of the castles and forts dating back to the era of the Himyarite state, which requires concerted and integrated efforts to preserve archaeological and historical monuments.
The Governor of Al-Bayda stressed the keenness of the governorate's leadership and the Emergency Committee to implement what was included in the central plan to confront flood damage, identify priorities, and develop a plan that contributes to reducing flood damage on agricultural lands and archaeological sites prone to collapses, maintenance of asphalt roads, and rainwater drainage.
He stressed the need to expedite maintenance and restoration work in this archaeological landmark, inspect and maintain the remaining parts of the castle, remove any waste, and open rainwater drainage channels in order to avoid any water leaks.
