DAMASCUS August 16. 2024 (Saba) - 17 Syria were injured slightly on Friday as an earthquake hit west of the city of Salamiya in the eastern Hama countryside in Syria.
In a statement to the Syrian News Agency, the director of Salmiya National Hospital, Dr. Osama Melhem, said that 12 people were rescued to the hospital with injuries and bruises on their bodies after they stampeded and fell to ground while rushing out of their homes.
Five others were taken to the hospital with panic and nervous breakdown due to the earthquake, he added, noting that first aid and the necessary treatment were provided to the injured.
The National Seismological Center announced that the seismic monitoring stations recorded the tremor at 13.15 and their center was 23 kilometers east of the city of Hama, pointing out that weak to moderate tremors will continue to be recorded during the next stage.
