GAZA August 08. 2024 (Saba) — The municipality of Khan Yunis in Gaza warned on Thursday of a growing spread of infectious diseases among displaced persons and residents, attributing it to the Zionist enemy's destruction of more than 70% of the city's water wells.
The ongoing aggression, now in its tenth month, has led to the destruction of 26 out of 37 water wells in Khan Yunis and the city's desalination plant, severely impacting the water supply.
Over 1.2 million displaced individuals in al-Mawasi area are facing acute water shortages.
UN agencies have also raised alarms about the escalating risk of infectious diseases across Gaza, with chronic water scarcity and poor sanitation management exacerbating the crisis.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported around 40,000 cases of hepatitis A in its shelters and health centers since last October.
