SANA'A August 07. 2024 (Saba) - The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation(SCMCHA), Ibrahim Al-Hamli, discussed on Wednesday with the United Nations Resident Coordinator - Humanitarian Coordinator Julien Harneis, the damage caused by the floods and urgent humanitarian interventions for those affected by the floods.
Al-Hamli reviewed, in the meeting attended by the Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs - OCHA - in Yemen, Marcus Verney, the human , material losses and damage caused by the floods in a number of provinces, including Al-Hodeida, Hajjah and Taiz.
The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council pointed out the importance of responding to disasters by providing urgent interventions in the form of food, shelter , cash assistance and enhancing the civil defense's ability to respond.
He pointed out the need to expedite the provision of necessary relief assistance to those affected by the torrential rains that the country is witnessing these days, declaring a state of emergency.
Al-Hamli explained that there are hundreds of families affected by the torrential rains.
For his part, Harneis confirmed that he will hold an urgent meeting with UN organizations to present the damages, mobilize interventions and prepare what assistance can be provided
