SANA'A August 07. 2024 (Saba) - The Yemeni Organization for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control launched on Wednesday a field visit to gold jewelry stores and goldsmith workshops in the capital.
The Executive Director General of the Organization, Sam Al-Bashiri, explained that the goal of the visit over ten days is to protect consumers from fraud and tampering with gold carats , weights, and to take samples for examination and verify their conformity with legal carats and to place labels on electronic scales in sales stores.
He pointed out that the presence of labels on the scales proves that the scale is calibrated by the organization and therefore gives the correct reading of carats, stressing the organization's keenness to preserve the rights of parties to commercial transactions in the field of gold jewelry , prevent fraud and tampering with legal carats.
Al-Bashiri called on citizens to ensure, when purchasing gold and silver jewellery, that there is a calibration sticker on the electronic scales of gold shops and to report any shop that does not have a sticker on its scales to the Authority’s toll-free number 8001222.
