WASHINGTON August 03. 2024 (Saba) - The US Department of Defense has said the United States is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East by deploying more warships and fighter aircraft, fearing the outbreak of a regional war.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin "ordered adjustments to the US military posture to improve the protection of US forces, increase support for the defense of the Zionist entity, and ensure the readiness of the United States to respond to various contingencies," Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in a statement last night.
This announcement comes after Iran and the resistance threatened to wipe out the occupation entity with retaliation for the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and the second man in Hezbollah, Fouad Shukr, in Beirut.
According to the Pentagon spokeswoman, "the Department of Defense continues to take steps to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation."
Singh reiterated that her country will protect its interests in the region, including its strong commitment to defending the occupation entity.
In her statement, Singh explained that Austin ordered that the aircraft carrier Lincoln and its strike group would replace the carrier Roosevelt and its strike group in the region.
The Secretary of Defense also ordered, according to Singh, to send additional cruisers and destroyers to the Middle East and areas under the control of the command US Central Command "CENTCOM" .. indicating that these naval vessels are capable of confronting ballistic missiles.
Austin also ordered the dispatch of an additional fighter squadron to the Middle East.
