OCCUPIED AL-QUDS July 28. 2024 (Saba) - A senior Israeli military official admitted on Sunday that the engineering capabilities of the resistance movement are impressive and that it may take years before any significant progress is made against it.
Israeli Channel 12 quoted Lieutenant Colonel Hevry Elbaz, commander of the 12th Brigade in the occupation army, as saying "The Hamas movement has utilized a wide network of underground tunnels to skillfully transport militants and logistical supplies across Gaza. They are capable of executing well-planned surprise strikes and disappearing underground due to this expertise."
He added, "Hamas has conducted a well-organized defensive battle from underground using these tunnels." He indicated that "even after nine months of conflict, we do not have a complete understanding of the tunnel network, and we have not been able to fully control it."
The Israeli officer likened Hamas's tunnel network to a spider's web, noting that cutting one tunnel leads to the activation of other paths toward its goals.
"We were amazed by Hamas's engineering prowess, including the use of elevators and their understanding of the connection between soil and tunnels. Focusing solely on destroying all the tunnels in Gaza will take several more years," he continued. "It is very difficult to eliminate al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing, because it is a challenging task that requires extensive time and military power. Al-Qassam Brigades have fighters with a high degree of tactical capabilities and advanced training."
