WASHINGTON July 22. 2024 (Saba) - US President Joe Biden has announced his support for the nomination of his deputy, Kamala Harris, to run for the presidential elections, after the aged man withdrew from the race for a second term in the White House.
“I announce my support for my deputy, Harris, to run in the race as a candidate for the US presidency,” Biden said.
The US President called on his supporters to donate to Kamala Harris' campaign to run in the elections.
The US President announced on Sunday evening that he was withdrawing from the presidential race and ending his electoral campaign, in a very important decision that changes the features of the US elections expected next November, putting the Democratic Party in uncharted territory less than a month before the date of announcing the party’s final nominee.
“Washington Post” - “I believe that it is in the interest of my party and my country for me to step down and focus solely on performing my duties as president during the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a statement through his official account on the “X” website - according to what was reported by the American newspaper.
“It has been an honor to serve you (the American people) as President, and together we have weathered a once-in-a-century pandemic, the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression, and we have protected democracy and strengthened our allies around the world,” Biden added.
Biden indicated that he will address the American people later this week, to clarify more details about his decision to withdraw from the electoral race, expressing his thanks to all those who supported his election campaign, directing special thanks to his deputy, Kamala Harris.
