Zakharova: Western media hides unprecedented attack on nuclear sites
[Wed, 25 Jun 2025 15:52:20 +0300]

Moscow - Saba:

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed the complicity of the Western media in concealing a historical precedent embodied by the first attack on nuclear sites, launched by Washington and targeting Iran.

As quoted by the Novosti news agency, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, "It seems to me that the Western media is committing, or has committed, a grave professional crime by diverting the discussion from the main topic: that this may be the first time in history that direct missile strikes have been launched against sites, storage facilities, bases, and the development of nuclear materials as part of a peaceful program."

She added, "The world has already used nuclear weapons and uranium-based munitions, but this is the first time that strikes have been launched against nuclear development centers."

At the same time, it emphasized that Iran's nuclear program is operating peacefully under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Therefore, those who claim that Iran is close to producing nuclear weapons provide no evidence.

In the early hours of June 22, the United States launched airstrikes targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities—Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan—in an attempt to degrade or destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities.

Trump emphasized that his country "does not seek war," but warned Tehran of "serious consequences" if it does not agree to "end this war."

Iran responded through its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who emphasized that the door to diplomacy must remain open but held Washington responsible for undermining this process.

For its part, Russia condemned the operation, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions, calling on the IAEA to take a clear position. Similar condemnations were issued by China and Cuba.
