Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation condemns Israeli aggression's targeting of port of Hodeida
[Sun, 21 Jul 2024 16:37:38 +0300]

HODEIDA July 20. 2024 (Saba) - The Yemen Red Sea Ports Corporation condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli aggression that targeted the port of Hodeida with a number of raids which killed, injured and the loss of other civilians, and destruction number of bridge cranes.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) on Saturday, the corporation considered the Israeli enemy entity's targeting of the port of Hodeidah and the service facilities operating in the ports of the corporation, and the resumption of the destruction of bridge cranes, a clear violation of international law and its charters that criminalize targeting them, and call for preserving them, and protecting the lives of civilians.

The statement pointed out that this crime, and the previous crimes of destroying the facilities and mechanisms of the port of Hodeidah and the Red Sea ports, targeting the infrastructure and the resulting systematic bombing of maritime navigation services, compound the humanitarian repercussions and cause an increase in the suffering of the Yemeni people.

It explained that the corporation is still suffering from the repercussions of the aggression that the ports have been subjected to for eight years, as a result of the aggression, blockade and illegal restrictions to close ports, which represented a flagrant violation of international conventions, which criminalize targeting service and vital facilities.

The statement pointed out that the destruction of port infrastructure and the systematic targeting of maritime transport equipment and services, in addition to the announcement of the closure of all seaports, will continue to witness the war crimes committed by the Saudi-American aggression coalition against humanity in Yemen.

The Foundation's statement warned of the seriousness of the aggression, and the threat it represents to the interests of the Yemeni people. It reminded the international community of what happened to the port of Hodeidah, whose bridge cranes, maintenance and storage hangars, and the port's marine floating slides were destroyed, the port of Mokha was occupied, the facilities and docks of the ports of Ras Isa and Saleef were targeted, the navigational and commercial activity was disrupted, and the entry of food, medicine, fuel and humanitarian needs was blocked.

The Foundation considered the destruction of the Red Sea ports, and the deliberate bombing of their infrastructure and the mechanisms of services for transporting and unloading ships loaded with goods, a full-fledged war crime, and a violation of international humanitarian law and recognized charters, including the four Geneva Conventions and their protocols, which criminalize the targeting of vital facilities and civilian objects.

It called on the United Nations and its affiliated organizations to assume their responsibilities towards these threats and violations, protect port services, as well as fulfill their obligations as agreed upon to provide bridge cranes and equipment destroyed by the aggression previously.
