MOSCOW July 12. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Kremlin presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied a report that Russia was behind a plot to assassinate Armin Babberger, CEO of German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall.
In a statement carried by Russia's TASS news agency on Friday, Peskov said: "It is very difficult for us to comment on various media reports that do not contain any serious arguments and are based on some anonymous sources. All this is presented in the style of fake stories. Such reports cannot be taken seriously."
Peskov's comments came in response to a CNN report that a plot was discovered earlier this year to assassinate the chief executive of the German arms manufacturer that supplied weapons to Ukraine.
The report said U.S. intelligence, which learned of the plans, alerted Germany, whose security services were able to thwart the plot.
According to TASS, the news organization did not provide any evidence for this theory, or any details of the conspiracy. Rheinmetall and the German government did not comment on the report.
