Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on Thursday said the global military and political situation is deteriorating and the likelihood of conflict is dangerously increasing.
Speaking at a meeting of defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, Belousov said, according to Sputnik: "The current military-political situation in the world remains complex and tends to deteriorate. Geopolitical contradictions have intensified, the fundamental foundations of strategic stability are being destroyed, and the likelihood of conflict has seriously increased. Against this backdrop, the role of international institutions designed to ensure global stability has declined to an unacceptable level.
According to Belousov, all of this is a product of the destructive path pursued by the collective West to maintain its global hegemony.
Belousov noted that "numerous hotbeds of instability are emerging in the world, including within the SCO and along its periphery."
Belousov revealed that the Iranian-Israeli confrontation has sharply exacerbated the situation in the region.
He said, "The situation in the Middle East has deteriorated sharply. This is primarily due to the Iranian-Israeli confrontation and Israeli and American attacks on Iranian military facilities and infrastructure, which constitute a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law."
The Russian Defense Minister added, "The current military-political situation in the world remains complex and is deteriorating. Geopolitical contradictions have intensified, and the basic foundations of strategic stability are being destroyed. The potential for conflict is dangerously increasing, and the roles of international institutions involved in ensuring global stability are declining to an unacceptable level."
