PARIS, July 07. 2024 (Saba) – Polling stations across France opened on Sunday for the second round of early legislative elections, inviting voters to cast their ballots in mainland France and various overseas territories that did not participate in yesterday's voting.
This second round follows a week after the initial phase, which saw a significant electoral breakthrough by the far-right National Rally party and its allies, securing 33.15% of the votes compared to 27.99% for the New Popular Front (a leftist movement) and 20.04% for the presidential camp.
On Saturday, voting began in the overseas territories, starting with residents of the Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. Ballots were also cast in Guyana, the Antilles, French North America, Polynesia, and later in New Caledonia.
Today, French citizens are participating in the election to choose representatives in 501 electoral districts. In the initial round, 76 deputies were elected, including 39 from the National Rally party and its allies, 32 from the New Popular Front, and two from President Emmanuel Macron's camp.
Polls will close today at 6:00 PM (16:00 GMT) in smaller towns and cities, and at 8:00 PM (18:00 GMT) in larger cities.
