Gaza - (Saba):
The head of the “Bakers Association” in the Gaza Strip, Abdul Nasser Al-Ajrami, has warned of a major humanitarian disaster due to the total shutdown of bakeries across the Strip, caused by the depletion of flour and fuel needed to operate them.
In press statements on Friday, Al-Ajrami said: “All bakeries are completely closed, and there is no flour or fuel available,” adding that the Strip is facing a state of “near famine” due to the lack of bread for the population.
He confirmed that “bread has completely run out,” noting that about 50% of households in the Strip now have no flour, amid the ongoing comprehensive blockade and the complete closure of border crossings for nearly two months, preventing the entry of essential goods and humanitarian aid.
He warned of the danger of relying on the U.S. plan to deliver food aid, saying: “We will die of hunger if we wait another two weeks for this plan to be implemented.”
He added that “the only alternative is to immediately open the crossings to allow food into the Strip,” revealing that the occupation has destroyed around 25 bakeries, especially in northern Gaza.
Al-Ajrami concluded his remarks by referring to reports of a possible reopening of the crossings next Monday, expressing hope that it will happen.
Since October 7, 2023, and with U.S. and European support, the Zionist occupation has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 172,000 Palestinians killed or injured, most of them women and children, in addition to more than 14,000 missing persons.
