PARIS July 06. 2024 (Saba) - The French in overseas territories voted today in the second round of historic legislative elections that are being closely watched by many capitals.
According to Agence France-Presse, voters in the Saint Pierre-et-Miquelon archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean were the first to head to the ballot boxes since this morning, where a right-wing candidate and a socialist candidate are competing in the only district in the region.
Then, voters in Guyana, the Antilles, French North America, Polynesia, and then New Caledonia will vote starting in the evening, while voters in continental France and other overseas territories will cast their votes tomorrow.
Hours before the end of the election campaign at midnight last night and the start of the electoral silence period, several opinion polls showed an intensification of the competition between the three blocs: the National Rally Party and its allies on the far right, the New Popular Front coalition on the left, and President Emmanuel Macron's camp on the center-right.
