WASHINGTON June 26. 2024 (Saba) - An American report from Breaking Defense, a military affairs specialized website, asserts that Hezbollah's downing of Israeli drones in Lebanon and Yemen's armed forces, backed by the United States, pose a challenge to both Tel Aviv's and Washington's air superiority.
The site elaborates that a series of operations where Hezbollah and Yemeni armed forces downed drones reveal enhanced capabilities and tactics in air defense, surpassing previous estimations.
This military capability development among Hezbollah and Yemeni forces is expected to prompt Israeli and U.S. military leaders to "review their aerial defense operational plans in the region," according to the website.
Given recent successes against Israeli and American-operated systems, experts believe both parties "may need to adjust their operational concepts when deploying unmanned platforms," as reported by the site.
Breaking Defense also notes that the number of drones downed by Hezbollah and Yemeni armed forces exceeds earlier projections of losses for Israel and the United States.
In a related context, Farzin Nadimi, a researcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, emphasized that "the growing threat against medium- and long-endurance Israeli and American drones, capable of maintaining high combat potentials, could undermine the aerial hegemony of Israel and the United States."
Meanwhile, Shaan Sheikh, Deputy Director of Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), remarked that the air defense systems of Hezbollah and Yemeni armed forces "could deter or reduce Israeli and American drone operations in Lebanon and Yemen."
Bruce Bennett, Senior Defense Researcher at RAND Corporation, observed that "Israel and the United States will gradually need to adjust their operational procedures."
Regarding these adjustments, Bennett suggested they might include "adopting different operational methods, enhancing electronic measures, and other countermeasures, and attempting to intercept ground-to-air missiles launched by Hezbollah and Yemeni armed forces."
