MOSCOW June 25. 2024 (Saba) -Vasily Nebenzia, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has condemned the UN Secretary-General's reaction to Ukraine's missile strike on Sevastopol, calling it a stark example of double standards.
In a press statement reported by TASS on Monday, Nebenzia expressed disappointment over what he described as the Secretary-General's silence on the incident and suggested it reflected a lack of concern for Russian civilians from Western media.
He emphasized that the UN Secretariat's response, or lack thereof, to such "blatant crimes" was indicative of its inconsistent approach.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, echoed these sentiments, criticizing the UN Secretariat for what she termed a futile and politicized response to the attack, which she attributed to Ukraine using American weaponry.
Zakharova accused the Secretariat of excessively aligning itself with Western interests and maintaining an anti-Russian stance in its Ukrainian policy, rather than fulfilling its technical mandate impartially.
