BEIJING June 23. 2024 (Saba) - China has launched an astronomical satellite aboard a Long March 2C carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province, with the aim of capturing gamma-ray bursts that flash like fireworks in the farthest corners of the universe.
The launch is the result of nearly 20 years of work between Chinese and French scientists.
Wei Jianyan, chief Chinese researcher at the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said: "We are looking forward to some important discoveries, such as the first gamma-ray bursts that occurred when the universe was still in its infancy, which will help us study cosmic evolution."
Four scientific instruments have been installed on the satellite, two of which have been developed by China and France.
The four devices can achieve a large field of view and high-precision monitoring.
