BUENOS AIRES June 12. 2024 (Saba) - The government in Buenos Aires is discussing with Paris the possibility of transporting five French-made Super Etendard attack fighters to Ukraine, Argentine media reports said on Tuesday.
Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino discussed the issue with her French counterpart Stephane Sigourny and US presidential assistant for national security Jake Sullivan, InfoBase said, noting that the country's President Javier Milley had approved the plan to transfer the fighters.
Argentina bought the Super Etendard fighter jets in 2018, but has yet to use them, because they are inoperable due to a lack of spare parts that Argentina cannot buy due to the arms embargo imposed by Britain after the Falklands War.
The website reported that the Milley administration wants to replace these fighters with other military equipment. In April, Milley told CNN en Español that he was considering visiting Ukraine in June during his tour of Europe.
In November 2023, Milley proposed to Zelensky to hold a conference on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis in Argentina.
