Two detainees from Gaza were killed, including a doctor

Two detainees from Gaza were killed, including a doctor

RAMALLAH May 02. 2024 (Saba) - The Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Prisoners' Club announced on Thursday the martyrdom of two Gaza detainees, one of whom is the head of the orthopedic department at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Dr. Adnan Ahmed Attia Al-Barsh (50 years old) from Jabalya, and the other is Ismail Abdel Bari Rajab Khader (33 years old).

The Authority and the club said in a statement that the Zionist enemy army arrested Dr. Al-Barsh last December, while he was in Al-Awda Hospital along with a group of doctors.

According to available information reported to the Civil Affairs Authority, al-Borsh was killed in Ofer detention center on April 19, and his body is still being held, although he was injured while in the Indonesian hospital about five months ago.

As for the martyr Khader, according to available information, he was martyred after his arrest, and his body was handed over today along with dozens of Gaza detainees, who were released through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

They considered that the two martyrs Al-Barsh and Khader rose as a result of the crimes of torture and medical crimes faced by Gaza detainees, in light of the continued crime of enforced disappearance against them.

They stressed that what happened with Al-Borsh in particular is a deliberate assassination, which comes within the framework of the systematic targeting of doctors in Gaza and the health system, including the aggression launched by the occupation on Al-Shifa Hospital in particular, and the targeting of its medical staff, and the subsequent total destruction of the hospital, and turning it into a cemetery where hundreds were martyred and arrested.

They added that with the martyrdom of Al-Borsh and Khader, the number of detained martyrs who rose in enemy prisons and camps as a result of crimes of torture, medical crimes, and the policy of starvation, rose to (18), and they were declared martyred and their identities were known, with the exception of a martyr from Gaza workers, who was announced anonymously.

The number of martyrs from Gaza is likely to be higher, as earlier the Hebrew media had revealed through press reports that at least 27 detainees from Gaza were martyred in Israeli detention centers and occupation camps.

The Commission and the club confirmed that with the continuation of the crime of enforced disappearance against Gaza detainees, the number of martyrs will increase among their ranks, in light of the testimonies of torture and brutal crimes reflected in the testimonies of the detainees who were released, in addition to the clear signs of torture on their bodies, as well as the photos and videos published by the occupation during the ground invasions, which included horrific scenes about the arrests of hundreds of Gazans naked, and detained in conditions degrading human dignity, sufficient to be an indication of what is The most serious and greater in terms of the level of crimes carried out against them.

They added that the available data on Gaza detainees are still sparse, with regard to their identities, places of detention, and numbers, as the only data announced by the administration of the occupation prisons is what it called them (illegal fighters), and their number according to what it announced until the beginning of April (849).

It is noteworthy that a group of detainees who were released from the "Ofer" detention center clearly referred to Section (23) in which the occupation holds Gaza detainees, and the torture and humiliation that is being carried out against them throughout the time, through the sounds issued by the section and the continuous incursions by the heavily armed repression forces and police dogs.

We pointed out that despite the calls and demands that have been addressed to all international institutions at various levels, to stop the crime of enforced disappearance, they have not been heeded, and despite the attempts of some institutions at the legal level to break the continuous obfuscation of their fate, especially since the occupation has worked with all its power to adapt the law to entrench the crime of enforced disappearance against Gaza detainees.
