Geneva - Saba:
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Saturday expressed deep concern over the recent outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East, warning that any further escalation risks igniting a wider regional crisis with devastating consequences.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ICRC emphasized that such escalation could exacerbate existing humanitarian emergencies and lead to further displacement of people.
The ICRC stressed the critical importance of respecting international law and noted that civilians in the Middle East have endured decades of recurring crises, desperately needing a respite from armed violence.
The ICRC called on all parties to prioritize de-escalation, protect human life and dignity, adhere to international humanitarian law, and take all precautions to spare civilians and civilian objects.
The organization affirmed its commitment to working with its partners in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, who have activated emergency response teams to address humanitarian needs on the ground.
