DAMASCUS Aug. 27. 2023 (Saba) - Syria has condemned the French and US statements accusing Syria of using chemical weapons in 2013, calling for holding the officials of the two countries accountable because they allied with terrorist organizations, participated in the Syrian bloodshed, and practiced the policy of starving the Syrian people.
The Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement as saying that Syria condemns the two statements recently issued by the French Foreign Ministry and the spokesperson for the US National Security Council, which included a number of false accusations over using chemical weapons in 2013 and other fabricated and forged incidents, noting that these two statements are inseparable from the campaign of misinformation and lies launched by the French and US Ministries of Foreign Affairs in their previous statements, which confirm the participation of the two countries and other countries in orchestrating this heinous crime within the framework of their full partnership with the direct and indirect terrorist attacks on Syria and their heinous crimes against the Syrian people that amount to war crimes and other crimes against humanity.
The Foreign Ministry added it is ironic that France and the United States claim to use weapons of this kind in Syria, at a time when many countries have used these weapons against the peoples of Asia and Africa, stressing that such statements aim to hide the real criminal and cover up the involvement of France and the United States and their responsibility in the incident of terrorist groups using chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus, in August 2013, and other incidents.
The ministry stressed that the French and US statements reflect once again the continuation of successive French governments and US administrations since 2011 in pursuing hostile policies against the Syrian people, especially in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and other international forums, and one of the results was the catastrophic failure of French and US foreign policies and their resounding loss at various levels, the latest of which will not be what happened in Niger recently.
The Foreign Ministry expressed Syria's strong condemnation of the positions of the two countries, which fall within the framework of exerting more political and economic pressure on it, and covering up their responsibility with other countries in supporting terrorist and separatist groups, and its involvement in supplying these groups with materials and chemical weapons that it used in all the incidents that took place in Syria, not to mention the The unstoppable support from these two countries and others for the terrorist groups that killed thousands of Syrians in cold blood and destroyed the Syrian infrastructure.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed that those who must be held accountable are the French and US officials and those in their orbit, because they allied with the Takfiri terrorist organizations in Syria and contributed to the shedding of Syrian blood, and they practiced and are still practicing the policy of starving the Syrian people through terrorism and unilateral coercive measures that are immoral and inhumane, which flagrantly violate the principles of law and the Charter of the United Nations, indicating that the United States and a number of Western countries worked to politicize the work of the Ban Organization and force it to issue decisions that flagrantly contradict the provisions of the Ban Agreement through encouragement, intimidation and threats, which contributed to adding more new complications to the organization’s ability to perform its role, the polarization and division intensified within it, and distanced it from the goals for which it was established.
The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that Syria has implemented all its obligations within the framework of its accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention, and has cooperated and is still cooperating with the organization and its technical secretariat, and has always affirmed its categorical rejection of the use of toxic substances as weapons at any time, by any party, and under any circumstances.
