COPENHAGEN August 25.2023 (Saba) - Danish Minister of Justice, Peter Hommelgaard, announced on Friday his country's intention to ban the burning of copies of the Holy Quran, after a series of desecrations of the Quran in this Scandinavian country, which angered Muslims around the world.
The Danish minister said in statements to reporters that the government will submit a draft law that "prohibits inappropriate treatment of things of great religious importance to the religious community," noting that the legislation specifically targets burning and desecration in public places.
The minister described the burning of the Quran copy as "contemptuous essentially and lacking in sympathy ... and offends Denmark and harms its interests, and we cannot remain idly by while a few individuals do everything in their power to provoke violent reactions."
Recently, crimes of insulting the Holy Quran were repeated in Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands by extremists in front of the embassies of Islamic countries, which sparked angry reactions, in addition to official summons for the diplomats of the two countries in more than one Arab country.
