MANILA March 30. 2023 (Saba) - At least ten people were killed in a fire broke out on Thursday on a Philippine ferry off the southern Philippine province of Basilan, while about 230 others on board were rescued.
Philippine media quoted a commander of the Coast Guard in Mindanao as saying nine people were injured in the fire that broke out in the cabins of the ferry "MV Lady Mary Joy 3", which caught fire off the island of Baluk Baluk about 885 km away south Manila, pointing out that most of the passengers were asleep when the fire broke out.
The commander pointed out that the causes of the fire are still not clear, but some survivors said that it started from the air-conditioned cabins of the ship.
