President meets with U.S. Senate members


WASHINGTON, Aug.01 (Saba)- President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi attended a meeting held Wednesday evening in the hall of the Foreign Relations Committee in the U.S. Congress in Washington.

The meeting included Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the U.S. Senate, Senator Robert Menendez, and a number of members of the Committees on Foreign Relations and Military Services, including the leader in the Republican Party Senator John McCain.

During the meeting , President Hadi expressed his deep appreciation for the U.S. positions in support of Yemen since the start of the 2011 crisis, and its pioneer role along with the other permanent member countries in the Security Council and the GCC countries, topped by Saudi Arabia, in supporting the historic political settlement under the GCC-brokered initiative and its executive mechanism.

He noted that this political settlement has represented the best exit for all political forces and spared Yemen woes of the civil war and fragmentation.

The president reviewed in detail the procedures, steps and decisions that have been taken according to the terms of the Gulf initiative and its operational mechanism and the Security Council’s resolutions 2014 and 2051.

In his speech, the president touched on a number of issues and challenges facing the development process in Yemen, emphasizing the importance of providing support for the peaceful transition process in Yemen so as to achieve the success in this peaceful course.

The President considered that Yemen's strategic location is an exceptional interest at the national and regional levels and the international peace.

The U.S. Senate members in the Congress praised the constructive, peaceful and brave steps that have been done in Yemen and made it a wonderful modal of the peaceful change.

They confirmed that the United States would continue to present the necessary support for Yemen's full exit from the crisis ,stressing at the same time the need for the international community to cooperate in order to achieve those goals in Yemen and to its efforts in the fight against terrorism.
