Moscow – Saba:
Gas prices in Europe have seen a significant increase of 40 percent during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, with the average price reaching around $464 per 1,000 cubic meters, according to calculations by TASS based on data from the London Futures Exchange.
The rise in prices is attributed to increased consumption during the heating season, the early need to refill storage facilities in preparation for the upcoming winter, and geopolitical risks.
Gas prices at European trading hubs began climbing in the fall of last year, reaching $509 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter of 2025 and averaging $420 in the second quarter.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices also surged by 40 percent between January and June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, and by 5 percent compared to the second half of 2024, reaching an average of $464.
In June 2025 alone, the average gas price rose by 6.7 percent compared to May, hitting approximately $439, which is 14.5 percent higher than in June 2024.
