SANA'A, April 07 (Saba) - A court of first instance on Sunday sentenced seven members of al-Qaeda to between 2 - 5 years in prison.

In the first session, Judge Hilal Hamed passed a sentence of five years in jail to each of Abdulrahman al-Jumaihi (Tunisian) and Mohammed al-Gurabi (Yemeni); three years to Ibrahim al-Matari (Yemeni) and two years to Shamel Mohammed Rasoul (Dagestanian). All the rulings begin from the date of arrest.

Two others, Ahmed Abdu al-Moualad and Ziad Al-Shareiah, were released on time served.

The accused were charged with involving in an organized armed gang linked to al-Qaeda during late of 2008 – 17 June 2012 and plotting to fight armed forces; assassinate military and security officials and foreigners and attack government facilities.

In the second session, the same court sentenced Akram Saleh Qutaish to five years in prison and each of Abdullah al-Namani and Hashem Mhammed Kabei to two years starting from the date of arrest.

The court released Abdul-Elah al-Hamzi on time served.

Besides accusations of the first group, the four accused were also charged with carrying out murder, explosion and sabotage acts.
