SANA'A, June 29 (Saba) – Hundreds of people held a demonstration Monday to protest kidnapping of foreigners in Yemen, urging the authorities to put an end to abductions as they are striking Yemen economy.
Many civil society organizations took part in the march staged in Sana'a and which was organized by the Yemeni Tourism Federation, focusing on the recent kidnapping of nine foreign medics in Saada and slaying three fellow female captives.
"Kidnapping is not in line with Islamic principles and customs of the Yemeni people," the marchers said in a communiqué.
"Kidnappers are harming Yemen and the people's interest with their acts and they really want to destabilize the nation."
"We call on the authorities to immediately hunt abductors and put them to justice."
On behalf of all the Yemeni people, we apologize for the families of the abducted and their countries and already wanted to tell them kidnapping and terrorism belong to no specific country, the protesters added.
The fate of six foreigners, five Germans and a Briton, kidnapped this month in restive Saada province in northern Yemen among a group of nine is still unclear after three captives were found dead three days later.
Search for the six is ongoing and expanded.
The kidnapping comes though abducting foreigners has decreased in recent years.
