SANAA, April 22 (Saba) - The Business Services Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Monday organized a seminar entitled "corporate governance".
The seminar discussed the first five working papers on the concept of corporate governance and its principles presented by the Assistant Professor of Commercial Law Dr. Abdul Kalik Al-Dharsi and the second on the principles of companies in the Yemeni Commercial Law, presented by the former Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law Dr. Yusuf Hassan. The third paper included governance as a tool to combat money laundering and terrorism and was presented by the Head of the Financial Information Gathering Unit Wadih Al-Sada.
The fourth paper was reviewed by the legal accountant Anwar Anam, and touched the role of the accountant in strengthening corporate governance.
The fifth paper dealt with the importance of corporate governance in sustainable economic and social development.
At the opening of the seminar, Minister of Industry and Trade Abdulwahab Yahya Al-Durra highlighted the importance of the seminar because of its great impact on national capital.
He considered corporate governance as one of the most important elements of economic development in the countries of the world, stressing that one of the main objectives of the ministry, that it seeks to achieve a system that defines the rights and responsibilities among the various related parties such as managers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
"This will be done through the systems of control, risk management and compliance with the laws to achieve a balance between economic and social goals and between the individual and collective objectives through the General Department of Companies and Insurance in the Ministry and the Association of Accountants via the organization of the companies and the preparation of final accounts at the time under the supervision of the General Assembly, "He said.
"The support of business either men or women is one of the priorities of the ministry, which will be reflected clearly on the economic reality in the country."
For his part, Minister of Information Dheifallah Al-Shami said that the economic methodology of the country will succeed only in the unified collective action joining all the community efforts, the private sector, organizations and institutions concerned with governance systems to overcome crises and make the corporate governance a tool for building and development, which will in turn should be reflected on all fields.
He pointed out that the integration of society's performance will be a powerful tool to overcome the various types of financial and administrative corruption.
