SANAA, Feb. 28 (Saba) - The Afforestation committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation for the year 2019 on Thursday approved at its meeting chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Eng. Abdulmalik al-Thawr, the program of the planting season for the current year.
The Committee discussed the preparations for the inauguration of the season of afforestation for the season, where 22 sites were identified for afforestation in the capital and the rest of the provinces in addition to determining the period of launching the season from March 3 to the end of April.
At the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation confirmed that the afforestation season which will be inaugurated in the capital and the provinces includes the planting of seedlings, ornamental trees, almonds, coffee, fruit and forest trees.
He pointed out that the aggression and the siege and the lack of domestic gas material led to the increase in the excessive cutting of trees and use in the forest .. Noting that the importance of afforestation lies in the compensation of what has been lost from those trees.
Engineer Al-Thawr stressed the need to prepare and coordinate well to ensure the success of afforestation activities, considering afforestation as a civilized behavior to highlight the aesthetic appearance of cities and preserve the environment.
The Minister of Agriculture pointed out that the implementation of such events helps to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture, an occasion for planting trees and the establishment of environmental behavior and awareness among citizens.
