Sana'a - Saba:
A meeting in Sana'a attended on Monday by the Minister of Oil and Minerals, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ameer, and the Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Dr. Ali Saif, explored ways to develop Yemen's electric transport sector and enhance cooperation among state institutions to support clean and sustainable energy infrastructure.
The meeting examined the potential for introducing electric cars and motorcycles into the local market in a regulated and studied manner, aiming to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and minimize harmful emissions.
Discussions also focused on strengthening collaboration between the Oil Company and the Electricity Corporation to establish electric charging pumps and stations across various provinces, providing necessary services for electric vehicle users.
The parties agreed to form a joint technical committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Oil, the Yemeni Oil Company, the Ministry of Electricity, and the Electricity Corporation. This committee will be tasked with preparing technical regulations and standards for electric vehicle specifications and charging equipment to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with international standards.
The two sides also explored the possibility of using solar energy to power electric vehicle charging stations, promoting the utilization of renewable natural resources and expanding clean energy adoption.
Ministers Dr. Al-Ameer and Dr. Saif emphasized the importance of issuing clear recommendations to curb the spread of unregulated electric vehicles. They highlighted the need for regulatory and legislative mechanisms to ensure public safety and security while organizing this vital sector in a way that serves the public interest.
