Inter Miami has announced that Argentine football star Lionel Messi will be out indefinitely due to a muscle injury in his right leg, sustained during a match against Mexico's Necaxa in the Leagues Cup.

Messi, 38, left the field in the 11th minute after feeling pain in his right thigh. Medical tests revealed a mild muscle strain, with his return depending on recovery progress, the club said.

Messi leads the league with 18 goals and nine assists in 18 matches. Inter Miami currently sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with three games in hand, trailing leaders Philadelphia Union by eight points.

The club won the Leagues Cup in 2023 following Messi’s arrival from PSG.
