Gaza – Saba:
Beyond bullets and starvation, Gaza's Israeli-besieged population now faces an unprecedented environmental and health catastrophe due to massive waste accumulation and near-total collapse of collection systems.
Municipality spokesperson Hosni Mahna told Palestinian Shihab News Agency:
- 450,000+ tons of waste piled up across Gaza
- 260,000 tons concentrated in Gaza City alone
- Makeshift dumps overflow into streets, shelters and residential areas
With 1.2 million residents/displaced persons crammed into Gaza City, Mahna warned:
- Epidemics spreading due to trash, water shortages and absent sanitation
- Children, elderly and sick most vulnerable
- Main landfills completely inoperable after:
Israeli targeting of infrastructure
Fuel blockade preventing garbage trucks
Direct attacks on municipal vehicles
The municipality urgently appealed to UN agencies and environmental organizations to intervene before this man-made disaster compounds Israel's ongoing genocide and starvation crimes
