U.S. military official reported that a civilian was shot and killed by security forces while attempting to breach Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in the state of Arizona.
Colonel José Cabrera, in a statement cited by American media, said the incident occurred early Friday morning, noting that "security personnel acted in accordance with their training to protect the facility and its airmen," and expressed regret over the loss of life.
The incident took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time, when the individual ignored orders to stop at the base’s main gate near the city of Tucson.
According to a statement from the U.S. Air Force, the man was driving erratically and crashed into a security barrier before attempting to flee, prompting a security officer to open fire, fatally wounding him.
