Sana’a – Saba:
Between 2023 and mid-2025, the Yemeni Customs Authority has actively translated the general directives of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council, and the Government of Change and Development into tangible progress by modernizing customs operations and mechanisms.
The Authority has placed special emphasis on enhancing its operational tools and systems to ensure the highest levels of security and safety for travelers, while maintaining maximum readiness across land, sea, and air entry points to combat all forms of customs-related smuggling.
According to a recent report issued by the Customs Authority, its efforts have gone beyond revenue collection. The Authority has made significant advancements to fulfill its national duty of preserving public safety, maintaining stability, and protecting citizens.
The report highlighted the Authority’s substantial achievements in combating various types of smuggling—whether drugs, contraband goods, or prohibited pharmaceuticals.
Among the top priorities pursued by the Customs Authority throughout 2023, 2024, and the first half of 2025 has been ensuring traveler safety across all entry points.
The report also showcased the Authority’s streamlined customs procedures, which have drastically reduced processing times for all types of shipments. Additionally, customs centers have been equipped to provide comfort for travelers, including rest areas, prayer spaces, and cafeterias—creating safe, humane environments aligned with the Authority's people-centered approach.
The Customs Authority has also outfitted its facilities with fire extinguishers, safety tools, and accommodations for individuals with special needs, ensuring adherence to the highest safety standards.
In field interviews, several travelers praised the professionalism and efficiency of customs personnel, noting their efforts to ease procedures and facilitate smooth travel—reflecting the state's commitment to serving its people.
According to the report, the Authority has equipped customs offices with advanced devices and equipment, which have significantly expedited customs procedures for both travelers and importers. These systems have proven highly effective in preventing the entry of drugs, weapons, prohibited materials, and the smuggling of money and antiquities.
The report affirmed that customs officers are stationed across valleys, airports, and seaports—not only to inspect goods, but to protect the homeland from all forms of smuggling, inbound and outbound.
It added that customs personnel work around the clock—especially during nighttime hours—to ensure the smooth passage of travelers and to thwart smuggling attempts. Customs operates under a strict inspection system, balanced with respect for the humanitarian needs of travelers.
Ultimately, the role of the Customs Authority and its centers extends far beyond revenue collection; it represents the nation’s first line of defense, the vigilant eye guarding the borders, and the protective shield against harmful contraband and illicit trafficking.
The report noted that the Customs Authority has recently launched a series of documentaries and reports to transparently inform the public about the crucial work its officers perform in border regions to safeguard both the country and its citizens.
