New York - Saba:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzariny, confirmed that more than 870 people have been martyred and 4,000 others injured in the Gaza Strip while trying to secure food.
In press statements on Wednesday, Lazzariny said, “This is a death trap—people are being forced to choose between starving or being killed while trying to get food.”
He added, “Humanitarian access used to be widespread, but now it is restricted to areas adjacent to military presence—like ghettos,” stressing the urgent need to end this situation in Gaza immediately.
Since March 2, the Israeli occupation has closed Gaza’s crossings to the entry of food, medical, humanitarian aid, goods, and fuel, causing a severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
Backed by the United States, the Israeli occupation army has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 195,000 martyrs and wounded—mostly women and children—with more than 11,000 missing.
