Rome - Saba:

The Director of Operations at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skaau, confirmed that the needs in the Gaza Strip are "greater than ever" and the humanitarian response "more constrained" since the beginning of the genocide on October 7, 2023.

In a series of blog posts on the X platform, Skaau explained: "I have just returned from my fourth visit to Gaza since the conflict began. The situation is worse than ever."

He added: "The needs in Gaza today are greater than ever, and our ability to respond has never been more constrained."

"Hunger is spreading and people are dying simply searching for food."

Skaau explained that WFP teams in Gaza "are doing their best to deliver aid, often finding themselves caught in the crossfire while escorting food convoys through combat zones."

He added: "We are running out of fuel, spare parts, and basic communications equipment. Our local staff are living through the crisis and facing the same risks and hunger that all Gazans face."

The UN official noted the UN program's food availability, capacity, and readiness to deliver aid.

He explained, "During the previous ceasefire in the Gaza Strip (January 19 - March 1, 2025), we delivered 8,000 trucks into Gaza in 42 days, and we can do so again if a new agreement is reached."

Skaau emphasized that delivering aid "requires safety and the opening of all roads and entry points."

He said, "The ceasefire must also be a step toward lasting peace."
