During his meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated his condemnation of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, stressing the need to resolve Tehran's nuclear program through political and diplomatic means.
The Russian news agency TASS quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement about Lavrov's meeting with Araghchi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: "The Russian side reiterated its condemnation of the Israeli and US military attack on Iran, including the bombing of nuclear energy infrastructure under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which constitutes a violation of the UN Charter and international law."
The statement added: "The importance of resolving the crisis related to the Iranian nuclear program through political and diplomatic means was emphasized."
The Russian Foreign Ministry added: "Moscow expressed its readiness to help find mutually acceptable solutions, including within the framework of special initiatives previously proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin."
Russian officials have repeatedly condemned US and Israeli attacks on Iran and declared their willingness to mediate on the matter.
