The Emergency Committee in Sana'a province, chaired by First Undersecretary Hamed Asem, discussed in its meeting on Saturday the preparations to mitigate flood damage during the current rainy season and proactive measures to prevent property losses.
The meeting, attended by the Governorate Undersecretary for Services Sector Fares Al-Kahali, directors and representatives from Civil Defense, the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, Public Works, Agriculture, Endowments, the Executive Unit for Projects, Health, Environment, the Red Crescent, and neighborhood affairs, as well as a number of engineers and specialists, reviewed priorities for addressing potential damage caused by flash floods in valleys during this year's rainy season.
The committee also examined a matrix of needs for emergency operations during the current season, along with measures and preparations to implement urgent actions aimed at reducing expected losses and damages.
The meeting discussed the role of relevant offices in addressing potential damage and approved the preparation of an action plan for each office, starting tomorrow, Sunday, until the end of the rainy season. The plans will include operational equipment, required tasks, and costs for the working teams under the committee's framework, with all offices submitting their plans tomorrow for discussion and immediate implementation.
Attendees emphasized the importance of inventorying equipment in the districts and instructing them to prepare all available resources for emergency readiness during the season.
The meeting also approved the formation of emergency committees at the district level, extending the main governorate committee, as well as requiring local leaders to form community teams to assist in rescue and relief efforts in case of disasters caused by floods or landslides.
First Undersecretary Hamed Asem stressed the urgency of completing necessary interventions in flood channels, waterways, and culverts, as well as cleaning drains and dams. He emphasized that disaster response requires collective efforts to minimize property losses.
Meanwhile, the Governorate Undersecretary for Services Sector highlighted the importance of ensuring equipment and resources are available, dividing the governorate into sectors, and assigning each sector to a responsible entity. He urged unified teamwork to address potential impacts of the rainy season, reaffirming the governorate leadership's commitment to mitigating and reducing damage.
