Geneva – Saba:
The World Health Organization (WHO) stated on Friday that the Gaza Strip is witnessing intense violence against Palestinians, with an average of 90 people killed and 200 others injured daily.
Dr. Hanan Balkhy, WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, called for an end to the indiscriminate killings in Gaza and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid. In an interview reported by Al Jazeera, she noted that the lack of fuel has paralyzed hospitals, including Al-Shifa and the Nasser Medical Complex, forcing doctors to postpone chronic disease treatments—such as diabetes and heart conditions—to focus on saving lives in emergency rooms.
The WHO also reported on Friday that numerous medical procedures in Gaza’s hospitals have been disrupted due to the shortage of essential supplies and fuel. In statements monitored by the Palestinian news agency Safa, the organization demanded the protection of major and field hospitals in Gaza to ensure the continuation of healthcare services.
“Yesterday, we received children with gunshot wounds to the head in Gaza,” the WHO added, stressing that a large number of injured individuals require urgent medical evacuation outside the strip. It explained that Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis is functioning as a massive emergency ward due to the influx of wounded from aid distribution sites.
“We urgently need food and essential supplies to prevent the risk of acute malnutrition in Gaza,” the organization warned.
With American and European support, the Israeli occupation army has continued its genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 57,130 Palestinian civilians, most of whom are women and children, and injuring 135,173 others as of Thursday. The toll remains incomplete, as thousands of victims remain trapped under rubble or in inaccessible areas, with rescue teams unable to reach them.
