Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that Israel has "agreed to the necessary terms for a 60-day truce with Hamas in Gaza, paving the way for an end to the war." He called on the movement to agree to this "final proposal," which Cairo and Doha are currently working on.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained that a "lengthy and productive meeting" took place between US and Israeli officials in Washington, which resulted in Israel's agreement to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire. He added that work would continue with all parties to end the war during this period.
He noted that "the Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked tirelessly to contribute to peace, will present this final proposal."
Trump expressed his hope that Hamas would accept the agreement "for a better future for the Middle East," warning that the alternatives would be even worse.
On Tuesday, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer held meetings with several senior White House officials in Washington as part of efforts to advance the truce process.
Pressure mounted on Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza following the 12-day aggression against Iran.
At the start of a government meeting, Netanyahu stressed that "leveraging success is no less important than achieving success itself."
For his part, Hamas leader Taher al-Nunu told Agence France-Presse that the movement is "serious and ready" to discuss a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, affirming its willingness to agree to any initiative that leads to "a permanent ceasefire and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip." He acknowledged that "no breakthrough has been achieved so far."
